Bretonnia is a vast region situated in the west of the known world. It is the homeland of the Bretonnian people. Most of Bretonnia's borders are defended by natural geographical features such as the Great Ocean to the west, the Irranas Mountains to the south, Athel Loren to the southeast, and the Grey Mountains to the east.
This land is known for its gentle hills and fertile valleys traversed by bountiful rivers. The climate is fairly mild, making for good harvests. It is also a land dotted with numerous dense and mysterious forests, providing many suitable places for the pursuit of venery, the favoured and ancestral pastime of the Bretonnian nobility. Venison is the most prized game, usually hunted with a pack of dogs, but also falcons and hawks, and most often on horseback. Wolves, bears and foxes may also be hunted for recreation or necessity, as their meat is never eaten.
These forests also remain mysterious places for the people of Bretonnia. In the eyes of the peasants, they are the world of folk legends, beasts and other dark curses; in the eyes of the knights and nobility, they are associated with the cult of the lady and ancient knowledge. Many thousand-year-old stone circles are hidden within them.
